Bio

Emmeleia Filippopoulou was born in Athens in 1994 and grew up in Aigio. She graduated from Athens School of Fine Arts in 2017, having been admitted under a special talent category, and in 2018, she acquired a diploma in classical guitar. The following year, she earned a Master’s degree from Manchester School of Art in the UK. Her final postgraduate presentation took place at HOME in Manchester, curated by Ian Rawlinson, and it included narration, guitar performance, and visual sets. That same year, she organised a twelve-day artist residency programme in Nisyros, culminating in an exhibition titled 'In Site' at the island’s Archaeological Museum, under the auspices of the Municipality of Nisyros and co-funded by MSoA. In 2023, she held her first solo exhibition, "With One Foot in the Light," at Mets Arts Centre in Athens, curated by Niovi Kritikou. Additionally, she participated in the Discovery Art Fair in Cologne, representing the same gallery. In 2024, as part of a dialogue programme between De Ploegh Gallery in the Netherlands and Mets Arts Centre, she collaborated with a group of visual artists for the exhibition 'Greek Light Essence'. She has also worked as a drawing and painting teacher and as a set designer for theatrical performances. Her body of work includes painting, installations, and live performance, with a central theme exploring the impermanence of life and the wear of matter in contrast to the eternity of the ever-changing natural world.
