Workshop in Nisyros Island, Greece, 2019

Nisyros, 2019

The Nisyros Project was a twelve-day artistic Workshop in Residence, supported by Manchester School of Art (MSoA), UK, and The Municipality of Nisyrians, which took place in Nisyros, an Island in the Dodecanese Region in Greece, between 23/9 and 4/10/2019. During this period, six BA and MA students from MSoA came in contact with the Greek landscape and culture through a series of both individual and group activities such as excursions to the countryside and visits to picturesque settlements, exploration and study of the volcanic territory, familiarisation with local traditions and customs, interaction with the locals and participation in the folk Festival of Agios Ioannis Theologos. At the same time, the participants' creative dialogue and the everyday artistic practice in the historical building of Loutra culminated in the final Exhibition 'In Site' in the Archaeological Museum of Nisyros, where they presented the outcome of their work on the island and they shared their newly gained experiences.
